“Rain-Death Variations (Pisces)” is a short animation inspired by Pulitzer Prize winning composer George Crumb’s music of the same title from his Makrokosmos, Volume II. In the spirit of visual music, I create moving image sequences to express my feelings about this music. I respond to the music in a way that is direct and intuitive, not analytical and mechanical. It is my intention to use abstract visual composition to allow open connections to the music, and to correspond to the music’s larger gestures/framework without trying to match every note. It is not my goal to illustrate or interpolate this music but to pursue an imaginative and poetic audiovisual experience.
